Why do I need GPS? then...

Because time goes by slowly I am forgetting where I took photos.

Since I heard about GPS, I have been interested in locating my photos as memory with some kind of geographical location data. I always enjoy taking photos and then believed I remember where I took photos. However, when I was checking my photograph archives. More than some of photos, I could not remember where I took. This experience shout me two things.

  1. How should I manage my photography archives
  2. How do I enjoy remembering where and when I took photos

I have been thinking about above since I started managing my photographs.

When I first time thought about tagging GPS information on to photographs was when I was thinking to upgrade my Fujifilm S6000 to Digital SLR.

Till then I was using Panoramio to manually geo-tagging my photograph. It was fun but it requires lots of effort and time.

I almost I was getting Nikon D90 because a GPS module is available for it.
It is Nikon GP-1 GPS unit. This looks like this. GP-1 Specs is on Nikon USA. It was very tempting for me. It just requires to plug into a Nikon D-SLR. In short, I get a Canon even though I have had a New FM2 and 50mm F/1.4.

I was careless at the time of made the decision. My friends and his gears were more that geo-tagging. I thought I can remember where I took photos. I have been waiting for a GPS module from Canon.

Year 2012 at last, Canon release GPS modules for Some of Digital SLRs. Canon didn't include my Canon EOS 50D. This was released September 2009, over 3 years from the day I purchased 50D. I actually wrote an email if there is any chance for 50D becomes compatible models. Canon's answer was No at April 2012.

I started thinking again how I can geo-tagging my photograph. I thought about getting a new camera, however, I find another solution for me without extra expense. This was using an android phone and Bluetooth GPS module.
